This was based on a motion by the SPD and Green parliamentary groups, which was passed with 24 votes in favor and 21 against. All necessary measures are now to be initiated by the administration.

According to the city parliament, the subsequent implementation should be based on the plans drawn up by the commissioned engineering firm for the so-called "Variant 3". Due to the altered course of the promenade, new attractive open spaces will be created.

On the one hand, the beach area could also be extended in the immediate vicinity of the pathway - on the other hand, the green spaces would lend themselves to further uses. The engineering firm's proposal also recommends upgrading the pedestrian situation as a link between the city center and the lake.

Furthermore, the renovation, conversion and design adaptation of the DLRG station on Salzgittersee will be put out to tender as part of the implementation. In due course, interested citizens and lake residents will be able to take part in a student competition in conjunction with a working group.
