How and whether can homeowners use solar energy? The solar check, which is being offered for the first time in Salzgitter and will run until June 30, provides a helpful answer.

Until June 30, you can have your own home analyzed by an energy expert for 10 euros.
"Solar energy offers many opportunities," emphasized Michael Tacke, City Councillor for Building, Urban Planning, Urban Development and the Environment. A new initiative is providing information about these opportunities until June 30: the solar check. It includes an analysis of the house that is to be used for solar energy. An energy expert trained by the Climate Protection and Energy Agency comes to the home and analyzes the energy consumption and the condition of the roof (size, orientation, inclination and superstructure).
The house and its technology provide information on the integrability of solar power and heat. The usual energy consumption of the residents indicates how high the proportion of environmentally and climate-friendly, quiet and independent solar energy can be. Subsidies make modernization with solar energy even more attractive.

"The roof is the harvesting area, but the house must be considered as a whole," explains Jan Holzenbecher, climate protection manager for the city of Salzgitter. The technology for solar energy is sophisticated and easy to install. The experts provide a neutral and objective analysis and also give tips on what needs to be considered when converting the roof. They also provide information on the options for applying for subsidies (ranging from grants to low-interest loans).
"The solar check is the basis for further decisions," said Andrea Wachtendorf from the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony. There is a need for energy advice. This was also confirmed by Linda Gades from the Regional Energy Agency, who had already noticed great demand for the joint "Clever heizen" initiative.
The special thing about this premiere is that the first 100 participants only have to pay 10 euros (value of the consultation: over 110 euros!). The one to two-hour consultation takes place after registration with the climate protection management of the city of Salzgitter, Jan Holzenbecher, telephone 05341-839-4141, or e-mail klimaschutzstadt.salzgitterde
When registering, the homeowner will also be given the name of the energy expert. The expert will then call the homeowner directly to arrange a consultation appointment. The expert can identify himself at the on-site appointment.
If you would like to check in advance whether your roof is suitable for solar use, you can do an initial check online at http://www.solare-stadt.de/zgb/Start.
However, this check does not replace a consultation with an energy expert!
The solar checks are carried out as part of the implementation of the city of Salzgitter's 2013 climate protection concept and are a cooperation project between the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony, the city of Salzgitter and the Regional Energy Agency.
The aim is to strengthen the decentralized use of solar energy, primarily for own use, with a qualified, independent and cost-effective consulting service, to contribute to sustainability and thus to climate protection.
