The project and the current status were presented to around 60 interested parties. In addition to the explanations of the various conversion options, a representative of Ingenieurgemeinschaft Schubert presented a simulation of the traffic flow.
Questions and comments from the audience related to the different variants with regard to traffic routing, the preservation of existing trees, the parking situation and solutions for bicycle traffic.
At the beginning of the public information event, which was held at the request of the city council, environmentalists presented city planning officer Michael Tacke with signature lists opposing the felling of seven winter lime trees that are more than 50 years old.
In summary, city planning officer Michael Tacke made it clear: "It is important for the city administration to provide appropriate information about the project to rebuild the ancillary facilities on Berliner Straße. The current situation is that the lime trees cannot be felled until October 2017. However, the information event will not overturn the council's decision."
The local council and the city council's parliamentary groups will now be informed about the results of the public information event, the city planning officer added.
Interested parties can direct questions and suggestions about the project to the city administration.
