The detour have been set up. The bus stops in this section have already been relocated. Residents and property owners have been informed. Contact persons from the city and ASG are available to answer residents' questions.
ASG will first begin with the expansion of the sewer network before the road expansion of the first construction section, which is around 500 meters long, begins in sections. Parallel to the road expansion, WEVG is looking into laying empty conduits for the broadband expansion.
"Residents should be able to reach their properties at all times if possible," says Torsten Fleige-Lütgering, Head of Civil Engineering and Transport at the City of Salzgitter. Should there be any restrictions for construction reasons, residents will be informed promptly. A contact person from the city will also be on site every day to answer any other questions residents may have about the work.
On November 24, 2017, there was already an information event about the road expansion measure approved by the city council. At this event, the city officials explained that this road improvement measure is subject to contributions and that owners will have to pay local contributions. These contributions will be calculated individually. The owners have already received a letter to this effect. The costs for the expansion of the first section are estimated at approx. 800,000 euros. The amount of the residents' contributions in relation to the overall measure is approx. 20 percent. The remaining 80 percent will be borne by the city.
The expansion work on this section will take around eight months. The city asks residents and those affected in these streets for their understanding. A higher volume of traffic is expected, particularly in Adalbert-Stifter-Straße.
The second construction phase (Adalbert-Stifter-Straße to Matthias-Claudius-Straße) is planned for 2020; the third construction phase (Matthias-Claudius-Straße to Pappeldamm) will then follow in 2021.
"We have now received the funding decision for the expansion of Danziger Straße and will start building there in March 2019," explains city planning officer Michael Tacke. This funding must be used promptly so that it does not expire. Due to the high volume of traffic on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße and Danziger Straße, those responsible did not want to expand these two streets at the same time. "Then there would be traffic chaos," emphasizes Michael Tacke.
For this reason, the first construction phase of Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße, which is in a poor state of repair, will be upgraded first before work begins on Danziger Straße, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019.
This will be followed by the second construction phase in Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße in 2020, before the third phase follows. The costs for the complete road expansion of Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße are around 2.2 million euros. The residents' contributions amount to approx. 388,000 euros.
Information: Anyone with questions about the work on the sewer network can contact the ASG site management (Ms. Antje Nieberg: 839-2504). If you have any questions about the road expansion, please contact the site manager in the civil engineering and traffic department of the city of Salzgitter (Mr. Holger Münkenwarf: 839-3735).
