The ideas were incorporated into the design by landscape architect Johanna Sievers, which will now be discussed by the political committees.
Michael Tacke, city councillor for construction, urban planning, urban development and the environment, thanked everyone who took part during the final event on March 15 in the auditorium of Thiede secondary school. In particular, the children from Steterburg elementary school and the girls and boys from the Stiftsmäuse and St. Bernward kindergartens participated with enthusiasm and lots of ideas. They are the "builders" for the first major construction project within the "Soziale Stadt Steterburg" urban development program.
The town planning officer emphasized that the redesign of the playground was the first major public building project in the redevelopment area and an important step towards improving the living environment in Steterburg. "Only together can we successfully shape the work in the redevelopment area. The participation of citizens is just as important as that of associations and institutions," says Michael Tacke.
The involvement in the playground participation campaigns was very positive. Landscape architect Johanna Sievers substantiated this with her presentation. The children's wishes are wide-ranging. Together with the landscape architect, the children decided which wishes were suitable for the playground, what could be financed and what could perhaps be taken up elsewhere.
During the closing event, Johanna Sievers made it clear that the children wanted something for the "little ones" (up to around 6 years old), but also for the "big ones" (up to around 12 years old). The children also wanted their parents to feel at home in the playground. It fits in well with the concept that a new football pitch is being built this year on Brotweg for active sports enthusiasts, which can also be a meeting point for the "really big ones" (aged 12 and over).
In line with the new concept for the playground, there will be a play ship where children can get active together. A ring balance, swings and seesaws are to be added to the playground. The landscape architect chose play elements that do not yet exist in other playgrounds in Salzgitter.
She also took the local residents into consideration: the play equipment will be set up at large distances from the houses; there will be no ropeway because of the noise it makes. The playground will not be illuminated at night so as not to attract unwanted nocturnal "visitors" to the playground.
Parents' wishes are also reflected in the new plans: there will be more waste bins and comfortable benches. "All generations should feel welcome and comfortable in the playground" is the declared aim of the new concept, according to landscape architect Johanna Sievers.
