A full closure in this section is necessary. 15 large billboards will be erected in the Braunschweig, Peine, Wolfenbüttel and Salzgitter area from April 15 to indicate the detour routes.
City planning officer Michael Tacke pointed out that this important construction measure will be carried out in various sections, which will be completed one after the other so that as many properties as possible remain accessible during the construction phase.
The length of this section is approx. 760 meters. Approx. 6,300 square meters of road surface and approx. 3,800 square meters of sidewalk will be constructed. Depending on the weather conditions, around nine months of construction time will be required for this extension.
Work will begin after Easter with the first section from the Panscheberg junction to Geitelder Weg. The following sections will then follow:
2nd section: Geitelder Weg to Am Alten Tor
3rd section: Am Alten Tor to Gut
4th section: Gut to Schulring
Section 5: Schulring to Brotweg (a lane divider will be built in this section to create an avenue planting).
To ensure that the AWO retirement and nursing home can be reached at all times during the construction phase, Sierscher Weg will be used as an access route during this construction phase (Gut to Schulring). For this reason, Sierscher Weg will not be extended this year, but in 2020 when the work on Danziger Straße has been completed.
Residents and property owners will be informed of the exact schedule for the individual sections. A site manager from the Civil Engineering and Traffic Department will be on site as a contact person during the construction phase.
The new bus stops on Danziger Straße between Panscheberg and Geitelder Weg and to the east on Danziger Straße before the Schulring junction will be built at the same time as the roadworks.
As Danziger Straße is very busy with around 8,500 vehicles a day, 15 large-scale signs will be erected from April 15 to draw attention to the construction work and detour routes. However, traffic disruptions are to be expected.
Detour:
At the northern city limits, there are signs for interurban traffic. This will be routed via the B 248 (Frankfurter Straße) to the Hohe Weg junction on Eisenhüttenstraße. From there, road users can re-orient themselves.
Vehicles coming from the district of Peine will also be routed past Thiede as far as the Eisenhüttenstraße - Hohe Weg junction. From there, the route continues via the B 248.
Torsten Fleige-Lütgering, Head of Civil Engineering and Traffic at the City of Salzgitter, pointed out that the KVG buses (lines 603, 604, 620, 790) will also be routed via Pappeldamm and Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße from April 24. KVG will provide information about the changes directly at the bus stops
The total costs for this road construction measure amount to approx. 2.6 million euros.
In the week before Easter, residents and property owners will receive a letter with details of the construction work. Last year, the adjacent owners were already informed at an information event about the development work, the development contributions to be made and the compensation amounts due in the "Soziale Stadt Steterburg" redevelopment area.
Once the work on Danziger Strasse has been completed, work on the second construction phase is expected to continue from 2020 and the third construction phase on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Strasse from 2021.
