Salzgitter

Danziger Straße playground

The playground behind the houses on Danziger Straße is the first major public construction project in the "Soziale Stadt Steterburg" redevelopment area. It is still a construction site that nobody is allowed to enter. But it is slowly becoming clear how big the playground will be.

The children from the elementary school and the family centers were involved in the planning of the children's playground from the very beginning and contributed their ideas in three participation campaigns. They helped with the ground-breaking ceremony, which was also attended by members of the local council and representatives of the administration.

Three weeks ago, pupils from Steterburg elementary school were actively involved in the construction of the small play ship. Landscape architect Timo Wiegreffe from the "Spalink-Sievers" office showed them how the construction project, which they had helped to design, would be implemented in practice. The pupils had the opportunity to experience how play equipment is constructed.

On Thursday, March 28, the children from the St. Bernward kindergarten were called upon to help plant the first new tree.

The employees of the gardening company "Gala Bau Detlef Reinert" first used large equipment to place the trumpet tree in the planting hole. The little helpers observed this action from a safe distance.

What exactly the gardeners were doing and why they were doing it was explained in detail by Sina Glaser from the municipal management company, Susanne Goronzi from the city's "Urban Redevelopment Social City" department and their teacher Marko Walther. Sabine Naats from the Steterburg neighborhood management was also present. After the tree had taken its place, the children helped the garden experts to shovel soil into the planting hole.

The plant is one of several other trees and shrubs that will complement the old trees on the playground and give the area a green setting with cozy shady spots.
