As is known, the MAN Executive Board has announced that 9,500 of the total of 39,000 jobs are to be cut in Germany and Austria.
Mayor Frank Klingebiel and the City Council of Salzgitter criticize these massive cuts overall, but especially at the MAN site in Salzgitter and in particular the feared termination of site and employment protection agreements.
Over the past decades, the employees have made significant contributions of their own to securing the location, also in reliance on these agreements. All parliamentary groups and the Lord Mayor will now "pull out all the stops" to save the site.
Later on in the agenda, the city parliament approved the partial renovation of Fire Station I in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt. The fire station, which was built in 1980, is in need of renovation due to its structural condition and the space required. The drinking water and waste water pipes no longer comply with current regulations. Due to the age of the fire station, spare parts are no longer available for the compressed air-controlled alarm gates.
The committee also agreed to redesign the path from Kattowitzer Straße to Salzgittersee next to the clinic in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt to make it barrier-free. The path, which is currently shared by pedestrians and cyclists, will be divided into a cycle path and a footpath. This requires the path to be widened to four meters. The trees and shrubs currently standing close to the path will be removed, the wooded areas thinned out and an open green space created.
The municipal parliament was informed about the results of the "Voucher campaign for Salzgitter", in which a total of 106,310 voucher cards were sent out for the campaign, which ran from June 15 to July 25. The vouchers were settled/submitted by the participating companies by August 10. During the campaign period, 56,957 vouchers were redeemed by the companies and a total of EUR 284,785 was paid out to them.
Other items on the agenda included the feasibility study on the Salzgitter-Salder bypass, the appointment of new council member Peter Zielinski, the appointment of Carmen Gieler as Ortsheimatpfleger for Engerode, the appointment of Volker Spehr as Ortsheimatpfleger for Bruchmachtersen, a status report on the purchase program in Salzgitter-Watenstedt, the continuation of the youth workshop at the SOS Mothers' Centre, the annual financial statements of the municipal enterprises and the reclassification and reorganization of roads under road law.
At the end of the meeting, there will be motions and questions from the parliamentary groups. The current and detailed agenda can be viewed in the citizen information system at salzgitter.de.
