Tree felling work on the lakeside path

Tree felling and clearing work will begin along the Seeweg from Wednesday, February 17. The connecting path north of the Helios Clinic from Kattowitzer Straße to Salzgittersee will have to be closed in sections and cannot be used.

This work is completed after around ten days. Citizens are asked for their understanding.

This tree felling and clearing work is the first step in the barrier-free redesign of the Seeweg to the north of the Helios Clinic as part of the "Seeviertel" urban development project, which the Salzgitter City Council approved last year at a cost of 350,000 euros.

The asphalt path, which is around 3.20 meters wide and around 400 meters long, is an important connecting path to Salzgittersee and is in need of renovation. Some of the fences have been removed and trodden down, and some have been destroyed by falling branches and fallen trees. "Footpaths" have been created on the grounds of the clinic to reach the neighboring neighborhood, which are not safe for traffic. Overall, this area needs to be thinned out and upgraded.

As a first step, the tree felling and clearing work will begin on Wednesday, February 17, which is why this connecting path will have to be closed for around ten days. The trees and shrubs currently standing close to the path will be removed, the wooded areas thinned out and an open green space created.

Alternatively, there are two pedestrian paths to Salzgittersee: the road "Zum Salzgittersee" and "Riesentrapp/die Nebelflucht/das Talufer" can be used as a connecting path to the lake. Citizens are asked for their understanding.

Once this work has been completed, work is expected to continue in early summer (information will be provided before the construction work begins). The path currently shared by pedestrians and cyclists will be divided into a cycle path and a footpath. This will require the path to be widened to four meters. The path surface will be renewed and the areas will be equipped with seating and garbage bins. The existing lights will be fitted with new LED lighting heads to improve the illumination of the path. The barrier-free expansion of the crossing of Kattowitzer Straße will follow.

Federal Nature Conservation Act

The tree felling and clearing work will take place in February because the Federal Nature Conservation Act (§ 39, point 5) prohibits pruning from March 1 to September 30: During this period, no trees, hedges, living fences, bushes or other woody plants may be cut down, removed or uprooted.
