In summer 2019, the city council approved the disposition fund for the Steterburg "Socially Integrative City" redevelopment area: This provides a budget to support measures by local residents, tradespeople, associations and institutions. The total funding volume amounts to 10,000 euros per year.

The disposal fund is an opportunity to promote small, self-contained measures within the "Socially Integrative City of Steterburg" urban development program with financial resources from the federal government, the state and the city of Salzgitter.

For example, events, workshops and courses, tree planting campaigns, integration and cultural projects are eligible for funding. These offers can be aimed at children, young people, adults or families in the Steterburg redevelopment area.

All eligible measures must have objectives such as promoting coexistence and civic engagement, revitalizing the district culture and involving all population groups, strengthening the quality of life and networking in the district or expanding neighbourly contacts and encounters.

A number of projects have already been implemented in Steterburg, such as the purchase of event equipment that can also be borrowed by others. In 2020, the "beautification" of the cable distribution boxes was the first project with citizen participation to be financed from the disposition fund.

There has been a redevelopment advisory board in Steterburg since 2019.

The Steterburg Redevelopment Advisory Board consists of five residents from Steterburg, five representatives from various institutions and ten deputies. All members are involved in the redevelopment advisory board on a voluntary basis in order to support the implementation of the overall "Socially Integrative City of Steterburg" measure.

In addition to the ten voting members, the redevelopment advisory board also includes permanent advisory members: Employees of the City of Salzgitter, the Steterburg Neighborhood Management and one person from each local council faction represented in the local council north-east and the non-attached members. The advisory members have no voting rights.

Among other things, the redevelopment advisory board decides on applications from citizens. If an application is approved, the idea can be implemented via the disposition fund. The applicants finance the project beforehand and receive the money back after implementation.
