During her walks, Waltraud Wolff noticed that benches would be desirable in Steterbug so that she could sit down for a while or simply chat with others. The Steterburg resident submitted this idea to the neighborhood managers Diana Graf and Sabine Naats. They were happy to provide information about the next steps: "Anyone who has an idea for the community can get in touch. The initiators do not automatically have to submit an application to the redevelopment advisory board," explains Sabine Naats. Michael Feyerabend did this for the idea of the benches. The redevelopment advisory board then unanimously approved the project. It was financed via the disposition fund. "We look forward to receiving further suggestions to continue shaping Steterburg in a positive way," says Ulrike Heilshorn, the second chairwoman of the redevelopment advisory board.
In consultation with the SRB, two locations for the new benches were found on municipal land: There are now two benches at the corner of Lange Hecke and Breslauer Straße and in front of the elementary school, inviting people to take a short break. The "Bitburg" park benches are made of untreated FSC hardwood, which was then varnished and stand on cast-iron feet. What makes them special is that they are higher than normal benches and have a total of three armrests to make it easier to stand up. They can of course be used by anyone who simply wants to sit down...
The surface has been paved and a litter garbage can has been installed at each location. The outer dimensions of the benches are two meters. The benches are compatible with the other benches in Salzgitter and are maintained by the SRB.
Waltraud Wolff is very pleased with the implementation of her idea and the benches, which are already being used by many people. The initiator would like to make further suggestions for and in Steterburg and thus for the community.
