The district management, the elementary school, the Stiftsmäuse family center, the St. Bernward family center, the citizens' association, the advisory board for people with disabilities, the Salzgitter/Peine/Wolfenbüttel police inspection and many volunteers were on site and presented a varied program.
Hands-on activities, games and handicrafts and information stands for all age groups on the topics of exercise and gardening made for an entertaining and informative afternoon.
Christian Striese, second mayor of the city of Salzgitter and mayor of the village of Nordost, welcomed the many guests on behalf of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and on behalf of the council and administration. He was delighted at the interest shown in the planned redesign of the primary school forecourt, as an attractive car-free space for all generations in the neighborhood is to be created there from the autumn.
The details were then presented by architects and planners Johanna Sievers and Ramona Rokitta with Bonny Reinbeck from the Urban Redevelopment and Socially Integrative City department:
A special place for young and old is to be created in front of the elementary school:
- What will be created on the forecourt? Green spaces and new trees; benches; play equipment, painted educational games; lots of parking spaces for bicycles and scooters; a ramp for wheelchairs and baby carriages and much more
- When will it start? Construction of the new parking spaces is planned for the fall. Conversion of the forecourt will begin at the end of the year. If everything goes according to plan and the weather permits, the new square will be ready in spring 2023. That will certainly be a reason for a small celebration....
- A beautiful place for children and adults. Play and playful learning will be possible there in the future.
- A new barrier-free connecting path to Klosterweg and Hagenholz will be created.
Another project:
- The adjoining garden is to become a community project for which all interested parties can get involved. Sabine Naats and Maximilian Grafinger from the neighborhood management team took on board many ideas from children, young people and adults: A raised bed with vegetables was requested as well as apple trees or potatoes.
- Discussions are continuing. Anyone who would like to can contact the neighborhood management directly (Lange Hecke 4). Flyers about the planned redesign of the primary school forecourt are also available there. They are also available on the Salzgitter city website (see below) and on the Neighborhood Management website(https://www.steterburg.net/start) (opens in a new tab).
