Advisory board for people with disabilities takes part in mobility week

The closing event for European Mobility Week took place on 23.09.2023.

The Advisory Board for People with Disabilities of the City of Salzgitter, in cooperation with the Bundesverband Selbsthilfe Körperbehinderter e.V. (BSK), also presented itself here with a stand and attractions to take part in.

On the one hand, there was the now very popular wheelchair course, where interested visitors could experience the barriers in our daily environment from the perspective of a wheelchair user.

For the first time, the City of Salzgitter's Head of Building, Michael Tacke, was persuaded to take a ride and was amazed at what a difference it makes whether you have to drive over a 3 cm threshold or a 6 cm threshold. After completing the course, he was awarded a wheelchair driving license.

In addition to the wheelchair course, passers-by could also be inspired by the inclusive painting block and a search game on environmental barriers for people with disabilities.

The information stand also provided information and discussions on all aspects of disability. For the first time, there was up-to-date information on the new care law. This was also available in simple language.

The action plan for the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the coloring pad can be downloaded as a PDF from the municipal website (www.salzgitter.de) of the Advisory Council for People with Disabilities.
