A special project in a central location in Steterburg: a so-called "pop-up parklet" is being created on the market square to improve the quality of stay and invite more people to stop by and linger.
The project was kicked off with hands-on workshops that took place from May 5 to 11 and were financed by the development fund. The design concept was developed by Berlin artist Helen Feifel. She provided on-site guidance during construction and accompanied the workshops. Many citizens were active together: benches and planters were built, designed and planted.
This self-built mobile furniture is now being presented and inaugurated on four plots.
Until October, the newly designed market square can continue to be actively used by citizens with their own ideas for the community.
The elements will then be dismantled for the winter and remain in Steterburg for further use.
Further information: Day of urban development promotion
Since 2015, the Day of Urban Development has been supported by the federal government, federal states, municipal umbrella organizations and other partners.
In May, all cities and municipalities throughout Germany are invited to take part in Urban Development Promotion Day to present their plans, projects and successes.
Urban development promotion in Germany is a joint project of the federal government, the federal states and local authorities. As a central pillar of the federal government's urban development policy, urban development promotion has been supporting cities and municipalities in meeting structural, economic, social and ecological challenges since 1971. More than 9,300 total measures were funded in the period from 1971 to 2020 - in 3,900 municipalities nationwide. In the 50 years of its existence, it has proven to be a success story of integrated urban development.
Behind this success story is a very special approach: urban development promotion as a neighborhood-based and integrated program. Over the past 50 years, it has repeatedly adapted to a wide range of new challenges. The new structure of urban development funding takes this into account - simpler, more flexible and greener. The three federal-state programs in place since 2020 - "Vibrant Centres", "Social Cohesion" and "Growth and Sustainable Regeneration" - address current problems in a more targeted manner. They continue the funding priorities and supplement them with essential cross-cutting tasks.
The Urban Development Day was held in Steterburg for the first time in 2017. The "Socially Integrative City Award" exhibition was shown. The exhibition drew attention to the opportunities associated with urban development funding for the "Socially Integrative City of Salzgitter-Steterburg" redevelopment area.
In 2021, the people of Steterburg were invited to an artistic walk with the flyer "Steterburg becomes colorful".
Last year, a festival was held on the primary school forecourt to celebrate the start of the redesign.
Information "Pop-up Parklet":
From May to October, a so-called "pop-up parklet" will provide more quality of stay and usage options on the Steterburg market square.
In addition to the blue clock, four parking spaces will be temporarily redesigned with additional seating and planters for flowers and herbs.
Mobile furniture was built using funds from the "Soziale Stadt Steterburg" (Steterburg Socially Integrative City) development fund.
Over the summer, an open and green meeting place is to be created in the middle of the estate, where community activities and various smaller events can take place.
In the coming months (until October), the new place will then be actively designed.
Committed citizens can also participate in the design of the program with their own ideas. If you have any questions or ideas, the neighborhood office can be contacted by phone, email or in person at the neighborhood office at Lange Hecke 4 (phone: 05341/8879201 or email: kontaktsteterburgnet.
