Before the final event on Klesmerplatz in Salzgitter-Bad, it was not revealed who the winners of this year's two cycling competitions in Salzgitter would be.
A musical introduction by the ensemble "Feinblech" from the music club "Die Klesmer aus Salzgitter-Bad", who themselves took part in the CITY CYCLING and together cycled 1,170 kilometers, increased the excitement among the participants.
A total of 795 active cyclists in 62 teams had cycled 176,816 kilometers in both cycling competitions for Salzgitter. By not using any vehicles with combustion engines during this time, they avoided emissions of 29 tons of CO².
Salzgitter's Second Mayor Christian Striese welcomed the participants, sponsors and organizers and paid tribute to the cyclists' achievements during the CITY and SCHOOL CYCLING Weeks from 1 to 21 June 2024. They had pedalled hard for Salzgitter and covered the many total kilometers.
The special feature of the 2024 award ceremony: for the first time, the most bicycle-active local politician was honored. Eight representatives of the Salzgitter City Council and the local councils took part. "Even those who did not emerge as winners of the CITY and SCHOOL CYCLING event today, perhaps because they cycled fewer kilometers than others in their category, deserve my thanks, because every kilometer counted and was important," emphasized Striese. The "Council and local council members gold" award went to council member Holger Dahms from the Greens/TheParty parliamentary group with a total of 804.2 kilometers.
The mayor presented the certificates and prizes to the winners together with sponsor Nicole Mölling from Volksbank BraWo and sponsor Sven Strube from Radstudio Salzgitter as well as the organizing team Dr. Björn Gläser, Daniela Happ (both WIS Salzgitter) and Sebastian Vogt (City of Salzgitter).
At the end of the event, the organizing team announced the date for the CITY and SCHOOL CYCLING 2025 in Salzgitter:
Both cycling competitions will take place from Sunday, June 15 up to and including Saturday, July 5, 2025.
