Since 2015, the Day of Urban Development Promotion has been organized by the federal government, federal states, municipal umbrella organizations and other partners.
In May, all cities and municipalities throughout Germany are invited to take part in Urban Development Day to present their plans, projects and successes.
Urban development promotion in Germany is a joint project of the federal government, the federal states and local authorities. As a central pillar of the federal government's urban development policy, urban development promotion has been supporting cities and municipalities in meeting structural, economic, social and ecological challenges since 1971. More than 9,300 total measures were funded in the period from 1971 to 2020 - in 3,900 municipalities nationwide. In the 50 years of its existence, it has proven to be a success story of integrated urban development.
Behind this success story is a very special approach: urban development promotion as a neighborhood-based and integrated program. Over the past 50 years, it has repeatedly adapted to a wide range of new challenges. The new structure of urban development funding takes this into account - simpler, more flexible and greener. The three federal-state programs in place since 2020 - "Vibrant Centres", "Social Cohesion" and "Growth and Sustainable Regeneration" - address current problems in a more targeted manner. They continue the funding priorities and supplement them with essential cross-cutting tasks.
The Urban Development Day was held in Steterburg for the first time in 2017. The "Socially Integrative City Award" exhibition was shown. The exhibition drew attention to the opportunities associated with urban development funding for the "Socially Integrative City of Salzgitter-Steterburg" redevelopment area.
In 2021, Steterburg residents were invited to an artistic walk with the flyer "Steterburg becomes colorful".
In 2022, a festival was held on the forecourt of the elementary school to celebrate the start of the redesign.
Last year, the "Pop-up Parklet" was inaugurated on the market square in Steterburg, providing more quality of stay and usage options.
