Salzgitter

Three construction measures presented

Construction will be taking place in Steterburg over the next two years: Around 60 citizens came to the Steterburg parish hall to find out about the three planned municipal construction projects and ask their questions.

City planning officer Michael Tacke (seated third from left), Andreas Bittner, head of the urban redevelopment and social city department (seated left), neighborhood manager Maximilian Grafinger (standing left) and the planning offices involved provided information about the three construction measures planned in Steterburg over the next two years.

City planning officer Michael Tacke welcomed the guests and emphasized in advance that the three planned construction measures will be implemented over the next two years once the political committees have dealt with and decided on the individual projects (see below). At this first event, his team from the Urban Redevelopment and Social City department and the planning offices involved would like to provide information on the planning status.

The two planning offices Pabsch Ingenieure and GTL Landschaftsarchitektur/rollspiel Planungsbüro used their presentations to introduce the plans for the three projects (see below).

The three planned measures:

"Unter den Eichen" playground: creation of play, sports and recreation areas

The playground is used by many young and old citizens in the neighborhood. That's why there was a participation campaign in August 2024 for the design of this playground.

Ideas from the participants:

  • Play and exercise facilities for children
  • Lingering and exercise options for young people
  • Lingering and exercise options for senior citizens

Planning idea:

  • The playground should be used by all generations.
  • Rolling track as a special element that can be used by all generations
  • The playground should be designed in harmony with the vegetation. Preservation or addition of trees and shrubs to provide shaded areas.
  • The playground should still be visible - areas that cannot be seen should be avoided
  • Seating and picnic areas should be integrated into the design

Participants would like to see

  • Accessibility
  • Extension of the fence to the road to the end of the green space
  • Checking the placement of the toddler play equipment - Shading at lunchtime
  • Ensure cleanliness and prevent disturbances at night

= A playground centered around "play and exercise" is desired

Square design at the Schulring/Unter den Eichen intersection:

This intersection is an important traffic connection (with bus service)

The current disadvantages:

  • Junction area is oversized with a high degree of sealing
  • Long crossing distances
  • Lack of measures to reduce speed
  • Damaged asphalt

What should be improved?

  • Removal of the lanes and provision of crossing options
  • Paving of the intersection area, installation of ramps
  • Speed is reduced
  • Road safety and accessibility will be increased, improving the situation for cyclists and public transport
  • Trees and planted islands improve the quality of life
  • Improvement through new road surface

Participants would like to see:

  • Litter garbage cans, poop bags and seating

St. Bernward parish forecourt at the Pappeldamm/Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße junction

Important transport link (with bus service) - Klosterweg as an important connection for cyclists and pedestrians

The current disadvantages:

  • High speeds in the nursery area and problems crossing the road, including the bus bay
  • Oversized, unstructured lanes in the area in front of the church and the daycare center
  • Lack of measures to reduce speed
  • Lack of accessibility at the bus stop
  • Damaged asphalt

What should be improved?

  • Removal of the lanes and provision of crossing options
  • Paving of the crossing area in front of the daycare center, installation of ramps
  • Improvement of the crossing area:
  • Speed will be reduced in the area of the daycare center and the community center
  • This increases road safety and accessibility
  • Trees and planted islands improve the quality of stay
  • Barrier-free expansion of the bus stop
  • Improvement through new road surface
  • Functional reorganization of the recycling collection point

Participants would like to see

  • Control and monitoring of the recycling collection point

Information:

The detailed plans can be found in the presentations of the planning offices, which are published on the website of the City of Salzgitter (see below).

What happens next?

The planned construction measures will be discussed and decided in the respective political bodies (local council, city council). Following the design and implementation planning, tenders will be invited, contracts awarded and then construction will begin.

The plan is to implement individual measures from the fall of 2025, but by 2026 at the latest.

Important: The public will be informed of the details before all construction work begins.

Anyone with questions about the planned construction measures can contact the neighborhood management office. Lange Hecke 4, tel. 05341 88 79 201, kontaktsteterburgnet
