For young people aged 15 and over who are interested in volunteering as a youth leader in children's and youth work, the City of Salzgitter's youth development department offers annual courses. There are still places available for the courses starting in April and November. Registration is possible online.

You should be interested in working with children and youth groups, as well as being reliable and responsible. In addition to a willingness to reflect on your own behavior, you should enjoy working with children and young people. Furthermore, completion of a first aid course and attendance at all course dates are required.

The courses comprise approx. 50 hours. Basic course 1 runs over six days in the first week of the Easter vacation. The second basic course is spread over three weekends in November and December.

The youth leader training includes topics on legal issues (duty of supervision, liability and child endangerment), pedagogy (leadership styles, group phases, group dynamics) and many practical suggestions for action: group games, organization and planning of camps, events and group activities. There are also tips for public relations work, applying for grants and other assistance for day-to-day work.

The City of Salzgitter's youth development department offers participants pedagogical training, interesting practical assignments and many opportunities to gain experience in dealing with other people. An expense allowance for the assignment is usually included.

The acquisition of the Youth Leader Card (JULEICA) is associated with numerous discounts at many public facilities, such as visits to the cinema or swimming pool. The qualifications acquired and the Juleica card can also be an advantage when applying for jobs.
