Salzgitter

Klezmer workshop with Helmut Eisel and Juan Pablo Gonzalez Tobón

Helmut Eisel is once again offering a klezmer workshop in the Klesmer city of Salzgitter together with JEM guitarist Juan Pablo Gonzales Tobón from April 17 to 19, 2026 at the Kniestedter Herrenhaus in Salzgitter-Bad.

You can already register now!

What is the klezmer workshop about?

The musical basis of the workshop are klezmer traditionals as well as compositions from the repertoire of "Helmut Eisel & JEM", which offer plenty of room for improvisation and give participants access to free playing and the creative principles of ensemble work.

This workshop is therefore about klezmer and improvisation, but also about communication across cultural boundaries. Which grooves and sound material are best suited to achieving the klezmorim's main goal of making people happy? Everything remains very playful, music theory elements of klezmer music are only dealt with where absolutely necessary.

Who are Helmut Eisel and JEM guitarist Juan Pablo Gonzales Tobón?

Helmut Eisel:

Helmut Eisel has been performing top-class klezmer music on the stages of Europe and Israel since 1989. His trademark is Helmut Eisel's speaking clarinet, which unites people from different cultures. He is on tour with the band JEM.

Juan Pablo Gonzalez Tobón:

JEM also includes Juan Pablo Gonzalez Tobón, who teaches at this workshop together with Eisel. In 2024, there was a decisive change in the band's line-up: Juan Pablo Gonzalez Tobón has been playing the guitar since then. He grew up in Colombia, studied jazz and classical music in Germany and enriches the trio with new improvisations and grooves.

How can I take part in the workshop?

The regular participation fee is 195 euros for adults and 95 euros for pupils, students and trainees.
Registrations can be made informally via kultur-veranstaltungenstadt.salzgitterde.
