Salzgitter

Council meeting on April 1

The development plan Leb 161, 1st amendment for Salzgitter-Lebenstedt "Central supply area Gesemannstraße" was adopted by the Salzgitter City Council at its meeting on April 1, 2025.

This will allow the Seeviertel local supply center (central supply area Gesemannstraße) between Gesemannstraße and Neißestraße to be upgraded with the construction of a new four-storey residential and commercial building with a staggered storey and an underground car park.

An existing block of buildings (Neißestraße 6, 8, 10 and 12) and the existing dilapidated underground parking garage under the inner courtyard will be demolished for this purpose. Around 1,200 m² of retail space (discount grocery store and pharmacy) is planned for the new building on the first floor and space for offices and doctors' surgeries, fitness center, accommodation and residential units on the upper floors. The investor has also created a solution for the permanent accommodation of a local doctor in one of the building blocks.

The project will largely build over the existing inner courtyard of the local shopping center. The existing local retailer (Penny) with a sales area of approx. 750 m² is to move into the new building. A drugstore is planned as a subsequent use.

The city parliament also approved the marketing of the "Nördlich Bereler Straße" development site in Salzgitter-Lesse. The city of Salzgitter is selling 17 building plots there for the construction of detached and semi-detached houses with the possibility of accommodating commercial enterprises that do not cause significant disruption. The plots are between 525 m² and 1,326 m² in size (including planting strips).

In addition, the administration was commissioned to open up the Schölke and create a near-natural watercourse with accompanying open space design in the Lebenstedt city park area. This is being carried out as part of the pilot project "water-sensitive urban development in the regional centers of Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg" by the Blue-Green Cities Association in cooperation with the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association.

The meeting ended with motions and questions from the political groups. The current and detailed agenda can be viewed in the Council information system.
