Twenty-six volunteers, integration guides, and integration liaisons met for the first time at the invitation of the City of Salzgitter’s Department of Integration. The focus was on discussion and sharing the latest information.

Christian Striese, Deputy Mayor of the City of Salzgitter, welcomed the volunteers on behalf of Mayor Frank Klingebiel and conveyed greetings from the City Council and the city administration. He noted that the premiere was a wonderful opportunity to thank all the volunteers.

The Deputy Mayor praised the dedication of the volunteers, who are working in a variety of ways to promote integration: These volunteers are active in various areas, such as providing assistance to families, helping newcomers settle into life in Salzgitter, offering help with translations or language comprehension, providing learning support in schools, accompanying people to doctor’s appointments, and assisting migrants with municipal services.

“You, dear volunteers, dedicate yourselves day after day with heart and passion to helping others who have moved here. You help, you pitch in, and you just get things done. You give your time to others. Your volunteer work is commendable,” said Christian Striese.

The Deputy Mayor emphasized the high priority placed on integration. “Salzgitter is a diverse city. It is home to people from many countries around the world.” Salzgitter also owes its strong intercultural integration efforts to its many volunteers.

The team from the Integration Department, along with staff from various specialized city departments, provided information on current topics related to volunteer work. In addition, the volunteers and integration guides exchanged ideas about their activities.
