Salzgitter

SRB thanks volunteers for their support on the 23rd City Cleaning Day

This year, hundreds of people once again responded to the city of Salzgitter's call for spring cleaning and collected carelessly discarded waste from bushes, parks and the sides of roads and paths.

The twenty-third anniversary of the cleaning day also saw a new record number of participants. The number of 7,457 participants is a new record.

The kindergartens and schools were once again particularly active, with 1,659 children and 4,453 pupils out and about from March 16 to 20, cleaning their surroundings of waste and garbage.

On Saturday, March 21, around 1,345 citizens then collected litter and garbage from public areas, grass verges, paths and roadsides. It was not just the classic litter such as cigarette packets and food packaging. Unfortunately, some hazardous waste such as paint and varnish, engine oil, car batteries, gas bottles, electrical appliances, bulky waste and around 36 tires were also found. Hazardous waste in particular is always a particular danger to the environment and also to wildlife. The unauthorized and environmentally hazardous disposal of waste can be punished with heavy fines. Many hazardous wastes and electrical appliances can be disposed of free of charge at the Diebesstieg waste disposal facility

A total of 7,457 volunteers from 28 districts took part in the spring clean-up and the campaign week and collected 6.41 tons of waste, which was disposed of by the municipal waste management company (SRB).

The SRB would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants for their commitment to the spring clean-up, without which this achievement would not have been possible on this scale

The result of the spring clean: 6.41 tons of waste were collected this year. On average, each of the many helpers collected 0.86 kilograms of waste.
