Salzgitter

City of Salzgitter organizes first inclusion conference

Under the motto "Without obstacles through Salzgitter", the first inclusion conference of the city of Salzgitter will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm. In the council chamber of the town hall in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, visitors can expect a varied program of specialist presentations, information stands and interactive hands-on activities.

In cooperation with the Advisory Board for People with Disabilities, the City of Salzgitter's Social Services and Senior Citizens Department is thus creating a central forum for exchange, information and networking on the topics of inclusion and accessibility for the first time.

People with and without disabilities, relatives, specialists, associations, institutions and all interested citizens are invited.

After the official opening of the event at 10.00 a.m. by the first mayor Stefan Klein, Annetraud Grote, State Commissioner for People with Disabilities, will speak in a video message.

Afterwards, visitors can expect a wide range of information and exchange opportunities. Practical specialist presentations will shed light on various aspects of inclusion and social participation. For example, guests can experience a virtual tour of a barrier-free city or find out about the implementation of accessibility in Salzgitter. Other presentations will focus on topics such as barrier-free bathroom renovation and support services for people with hearing and visual impairments.

At the "Market of Opportunities", various specialist departments, organizations and institutions will present their projects and advisory services - from information on integration assistance to advice on care and assistive technology to low-barrier living. Visitors can also try out various hearing aids and technical support services. Interactive stations such as a wheelchair course or a tactile trail invite visitors to experience barriers in everyday life from different perspectives.

The event is completely barrier-free. Disabled parking spaces are available in front of the town hall. A sign language interpreting service will be available throughout the conference.

What is an inclusion conference?

The inclusion conference is part of the City of Salzgitter's legal obligation under the Lower Saxony Disability Equality Act to hold regular events to promote inclusion.

"Inclusion is a task for society as a whole. As the city of Salzgitter, we are already on the right track and have initiated numerous measures in recent years. At the same time, there is still a lot to do. With the first inclusion conference, we want to facilitate encounters, promote understanding, make existing offers visible and network different players," explains city councillor Jan Erik Bohling.

Manuela Lehrke, Municipal Disability Officer for the City of Salzgitter, also emphasizes the importance of the event: "The presentations and information offered by our cooperation partners provide practical insights and show how inclusion can succeed in everyday life. At the same time, the conference offers the opportunity to talk to each other and share experiences. All people are cordially invited - with or without disabilities."
