Salzgitter

One Year of the Climate Taler

What does Salzgitter have in common with Kempen, Frankfurt, or Cologne? All of these cities are participating in the Klima-Taler program! Anyone who collects Klima-Taler can redeem them in over 60 cities across Germany. Since the app was launched in Salzgitter, around 1,500 participants have already downloaded it.

Just join the Klima-Taler program!

People who travel in an eco-friendly way—on foot, by bike, or by public transportation—receive “Climate Coins” based on the distances they travel and the resulting CO2 savings. These coins can be redeemed for rewards at all participating businesses or institutions in all participating municipalities, such as in the neighboring cities of Braunschweig or Wolfenbüttel. Redemption is also possible in Seesen, Gifhorn, and many other cities between Aurich and Wörrstadt.

Nationwide, over 60 cities and counties are represented in the “Klima-Taler” network, where the “Klima-Taler” can be redeemed in various ways.

A special feature: Participating as a team

Similar to “Stadtradeln,” companies, schools, and clubs can register their own teams with the Klima-Taler: in Salzgitter, for example, the Dürerring Elementary School is participating and collecting Klima-Taler. By measuring CO2 savings and collecting Klima-Taler, the program rewards environmentally conscious behavior—setting a great example for the children! Other clubs, companies, and schools are also welcome to register as teams.

The City of Salzgitter’s Climate Protection Team welcomes additional participants. Residents are invited to join, as are retailers, restaurants, service providers, and cultural institutions.

Information:

The Klima-Taler is a digital climate currency and a simple yet effective way to motivate all participants to reduce their CO2 emissions through their own behavior. For about a year now, the city of Salzgitter has been successfully participating in the nationwide Klima-Taler pilot project. About 1,500 residents have downloaded the app easily and without having to register, and are now collecting Klima-Taler.

Anyone who gets around on foot, by bike, or by public transportation receives Klima-Taler, which can be redeemed for rewards at all participating businesses or institutions in all participating municipalities.

In addition, Klima-Taler are awarded for low electricity or water consumption.

In Salzgitter, the coins can be redeemed at the Stadtbad, Thermalsolbad, and the ice rink; at Johanna Denecke’s eyewear shop; at the city library’s book flea markets; at the Salzgitter Tourist Information Office; at Neon Computer GmbH Salzgitter; and at the Braunschweiger Hof Morgentau (organic delivery service to Salzgitter).
