Salzgitter

Results of the test purchase campaign: what about the protection of minors?

In May, the city of Salzgitter and the Salzgitter police department carried out youth protection checks in the form of test purchases in the city area as part of the "Safe and Clean" project.

A young person who volunteered to be a mystery shopper tried to buy tobacco products or alcohol under the supervision of the authorities.

And unfortunately, this attempt was often successful: the minor was sold alcohol or tobacco products, sometimes out of ignorance of the legal provisions of the Youth Protection Act or out of ignorance. The fact that this violation is not a trivial offense was explained in detail on the spot. The store owners and sellers will not be reprimanded, but fines will be imposed on them. The results of the test purchase campaign make it clear that the issue of youth protection has not yet reached everyone, despite all the educational efforts. Reason enough for the city administration and the police inspectorate to continue to carry out test purchases at irregular intervals.
