Readings, Radio Play: Salzgitter Literature Festival

The “Salzgitter Literature Festival” kicks off this year’s “Literature at the KniKi” season—organized by the Literature Office of the City of Salzgitter’s Department of Culture—from September 18 to 20, featuring readings and the popular radio play.

All events take place at the Kniestedter Church (Kniki) on Braunschweiger Straße in Salzgitter-Bad.

Crime writer Oliver Bottini

The exciting kickoff to this year’s Literature Festival weekend will take place on Friday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m., featuring the multi-award-winning crime writer Oliver Bottini, who will read from his latest novel, *Die Summe aller Dinge*. About the book: Spring 2018: In Duisburg, a man shoots himself in the early morning; in London, another is killed by a mysterious car; on Capri, everyone is talking about murder, yet neither a body nor blood can be found at the crime scene. “This can’t be a coincidence,” thinks Frankfurt police officer Vera Berg, who travels to Capri in search of answers. Oliver Bottini masterfully tells the story of where unbridled greed can lead: politically explosive and highly suspenseful.

Advance tickets cost 10 euros, and tickets at the box office cost 12 euros.

Philosopher and author Eva von Redecker

On Saturday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m., philosopher and author Eva von Redecker will be a guest at KniKi to present her latest book “This Urge for Harshness: On the New Fascism.” About the book: Through her in-depth and nuanced analysis, the author makes it clear that a shift to the right is sweeping the globe, with authoritarian forces gaining power and influence everywhere. Contemporary fascism, according to von Redecker, has taken on a new form that is not easily recognized and even harder to explain. In her groundbreaking analysis, its diffuse nature takes on clearer contours—and becomes vulnerable. She identifies its core in the invocation of an unconditional claim to ownership, the defense of which stops at nothing. An enlightening and defiant book that counters the rampant harshness of our times with a sense of solidarity and exudes the joy of thinking.

Tickets are available in advance for 12 euros and at the box office for 14 euros.

Live radio drama by Theater ex libris, based on a story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The Theater ex libris’s performances have long been an integral part of the annual Salzgitter Literature Festival. On Sunday, September 20, at 6 p.m., the popular ensemble will bring a classic of crime fiction to the stage at the KniKi: “Sherlock vs. Moriarty”—the final case of Sherlock Holmes, based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s work. In the fifth installment of the Sherlock Holmes series, Holmes encounters the “Napoleon of Crime”: his great adversary, Moriarty.
The performance by this exceptionally versatile ensemble of narrators—awarded the “Blue Carbuncle” by the German Sherlock Holmes Society —is complemented by a visually coordinated image projection with live music, which transports the audience visually to Victorian-era London.

Tickets cost 15 euros in advance and 18 euros at the box office.
