"Europe Day" on May 9
The historical surroundings and festive atmosphere invite you to look back into the past and celebrate 40 years of "Europe Day" at the same time.
In 1985, at the Milan summit meeting of EU heads of state and government, it was decided to celebrate May 9 as Europe Day in the member states from then on.
In times of great uncertainty, Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and the Salzgitter City Council would like to set an example of responsibility and international understanding by celebrating this important day.
Presenter Martina Buttler will introduce individual twin towns of the city on the stage in the castle courtyard during the breaks between the musical performances by the artists. Salzgitter residents will also talk about their experiences during their visits to Créteil, Gotha, Imatra, Swindon and Salzgitter's partner city Katowice. Further information on the individual twin towns will be available at a stand of the city of Salzgitter and the French twin town of Créteil.
Museum festival on May 9 and 10
On both days, the museum festival invites visitors to enjoy the historic surroundings of the castle and the festive atmosphere and to take a look back into the past. Exciting activities and the stage program offer fun for the whole family.
A wide variety of food and drink stalls as well as children's activities and sales stands can be found in the castle courtyard. Clubs from Salder will also be there again. Every purchase at a stand of the VfL Salder sports club, the citizens' initiative ProSal e.V. or the Salder volunteer fire department supports their work. And strolling through the diverse arts and crafts market in the "Schafstall" is definitely worthwhile.
Historical hustle and bustle around the castle
At the museum festival, historical presentation groups present themselves in the castle garden and invite you on an exciting journey into history. The groups present their authentic costumes, equipment and camps with great attention to detail.
The "Braunschweig Hunters", a scribe and a postilion provide an insight into the Baroque era, while the "Brunswik Allerley" vividly convey the everyday and camp life of past centuries. In the camps, people cook, tell stories, work and live together - all in the style of the respective era. Visitors are cordially invited to visit the camps, ask questions and talk to the performers, while the combat demonstrations by the "Freyschar zu Bokenrode" are a special highlight of the program. Two demonstrations will take place on each of the two days of the event, during which historical battle scenes will be impressively and enthusiastically presented.
For the little guests
There is also plenty on offer for younger visitors to the museum festival:
- The learning workshop invites them to the castle's vaulted cellar to creatively design window and table decorations to give as gifts on Mother's Day. Roman Niehaus will also be telling exciting stories to the children during "Fairytale Time".
- At the castle pond on Saturday and Sunday at 3.30 pm, you can experience a historical and then a modern fire-fighting exercise by the Salder youth fire department.
- Holger Junker will tell young guests in the mill garden what life was like in the Stone Age.
- The Lahberger Märchenbühne will be coming to the Hinter dem Knick parking lot with their Punch and Judy show.
- The Böer riding stable, Hinter dem Knick 46, invites children to ride ponies from the Salzgitter Riding Club.
