What work is being done?
The curve where Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße meets Pappeldamm is being expanded.
To do this, the intersection of Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße and Pappeldamm must be completely closed.
How will traffic be rerouted?
- The family center and residents on the Pappeldamm cul-de-sac can once again be reached from Danziger Straße via Pappeldamm using a single-lane passage through the construction zone.
- The junction with Klosterweg will remain closed.
- Pedestrian traffic will continue to be routed past the construction site via the sidewalks, which have been completed on both sides.
Information:
The next phase of construction will begin on Monday, October 19, with the new traffic routing.
Important: The traffic rerouting will be implemented on Monday, October 19, by 11 a.m.
The new traffic routing is expected to remain in place until November 2026. Changes due to weather or construction conditions are possible.
The City of Salzgitter is aware that a construction site, with its associated closures, can mean restrictions and longer travel times for all road users, and that the corresponding detours may be perceived as time-consuming.
The city therefore continues to ask residents and road users for their understanding regarding the restrictions associated with the construction project and assures them that every effort will be made to complete the work as quickly as possible.
The redesign of the St. Bernward forecourt began in March 2026. Due to the extensive nature of the construction project, Pappeldamm in front of the St. Bernward parish had to be completely closed.
Due to unforeseen developments, the work was delayed.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact the Department of Urban Redevelopment and Social City of the City of Salzgitter by phone at 05341/839-3564 or 05341/839-3523, or by email at stadtumbaustadt.salzgitterde.
What can citizens look forward to?
The redesign will improve the following:
- Speed will be reduced in the area around the daycare center and the community center.
- The roadways will be narrowed, and crossings will be equipped with tactile elements
- Paving of the intersection area in front of the daycare center with ramps to serve as a warning zone
- Improvement of the crossing area by creating a median island
- Accessible renovation of both Kloster bus stops
= This will improve traffic safety and accessibility.
- Trees and planting islands improve the quality of the outdoor space.
- Functional reorganization of the recycling collection area
= The redesign will bring numerous improvements to the important traffic connection from Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße to Pappeldamm for all road users and residents.
