Salzgitter

Second citizens' workshop on the BS - SZ / WF high-speed cycle link

On Tuesday, June 9, the next public participation event for the planned cycle highway will take place at the Salzgitter-Thiede secondary school from 6:00 pm.

Events are also planned in Wolfenbüttel (June 4) and Braunschweig (June 23).

Progress is being made on the high-speed cycle link from Braunschweig to Salzgitter and Wolfenbüttel. After more than 300 ideas, suggestions and comments from the first round of public participation were submitted to the planners in spring 2025, a planning office has been evaluating and assessing the route proposals received since the fall. This involved the challenge of sifting through the large number of proposals received, which far exceeded the expected number, and evaluating them in a comprehensible and transparent planning and selection process according to environmental and traffic criteria.

The first route variants are now available as an interim result of this planning process. All interested parties are invited to participate in the second round of public participation. The event in Salzgitter will take place on

  • June 09, 2026, 6:00 p.m., at the SZ-Thiede secondary school, Panscheberg 56, 38239 Salzgitter.

The other two events are planned as follows

  • Wolfenbüttel: 04.06.2026, 18:00, Council Chamber Town Hall, Stadtmarkt 3-6, 38300 Wolfenbüttel (registration in Wolfenbüttel is required)
  • Braunschweig: 23.06.2026, 18:00, Raabeschule secondary school, Stöckheim branch, Siekgraben 46, 38124 Braunschweig

Admission is from 17:30 in each case.

The aim of the workshops is to work with citizens to develop a preferred option for the high-speed cycle link. This will then be presented to the responsible political committees of the cities of Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Wolfenbüttel for consultation and approval.

Background:

The cities of Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Wolfenbüttel are planning a high-speed cycle link between the municipalities involved with the help of the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association. High-speed cycle connections are a contribution to the traffic turnaround and climate protection. They reduce travel times by bike or pedelec to less than or equal to those by car. To this end, the high-speed cycle connections are built in such a way that time lost due to stopping at traffic junctions, slow journeys due to insufficient road widths, poor road surfaces and gradients are avoided. The first workshop in Salzgitter took place in February 2025.

Information on the project and public participation can be found on the website of the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association (opens in a new tab).
