The Department of Economic, Association and European Affairs, Statistics is responsible for processing structural policy tasks in the economic sector, coordinating structural policy projects, implementing measures to secure skilled workers and monitoring and coordinating EU, federal and state funding. The department is the point of contact for EU issues.

It also represents the city's interests in the Braunschweig region and the Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen Metropolregion and coordinates the performance of tasks vis-à-vis the Zweckverband Großraum Braunschweig.

Statistics organizes data processing and information provision for external customers and internal city management purposes. The data protection officer for the city of Salzgitter is also based in the department.
