Seasonal license plates are intended for vehicles such as motorcycles, convertibles or motorhomes that are only used at certain times of the year. Their owners or keepers can thus save themselves frequent registration and deregistration. Insurance cover and the obligation to pay contributions are suspended outside the operating period. The operating period is indicated on the right-hand side of the license plate (e.g. 05/11 = the vehicle may be used from May to November).

• current identity card or passport with confirmation of registration - not older than 3 months
• Electronic insurance confirmation (eVB) according to § 23 Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) with indication of the seasonal period
• Registration certificate part I
• Registration certificate Part II or operating license (for vehicles that do not require registration but do require a license plate)
• Test report of the last valid general inspection (HU)
  • Not applicable for vehicles whose first general inspection was not yet due
• Previous license plates
• If applicable, confirmation of reservation for the desired license plate
• SEPA direct debit mandate for the collection of vehicle tax
  • This must be submitted in writing and signed by the owner in the original upon registration, including by third parties. If the account holder is different, this mandate must be signed in the original by the owner and the account holder. Proof of the specified bank details must be provided.
  • Alternatively:
    • Certificate stating that the main customs office waives the collection of motor vehicle tax or
    • Proof of tax exemption
• If applicable, certificate of deregistration/decommissioning prior to October 1, 2005

In the case of settlement by a third party, additionally

• informal, written power of attorney from the person making the application and identity card of the person for whom the vehicle is to be registered

for companies additionally:

• Extract from the trade register or commercial register
• the identification documents of the person responsible and authorized to sign (managing director, authorized signatory) and their power of attorney
