If you are expected to be permanently admitted to a hospital, a nursing home, or a similar facility, you may be exempt from the requirement to carry identification—that is, from the obligation to have an ID card.
This is the case, for example, if your health condition no longer allows you to live at home.
If you are no longer able to apply for the exemption yourself, an authorized representative may do so on your behalf.
You can revoke the exemption at any time. To do so, simply apply for an ID card or a passport.
