If you are a citizen of the European Union residing in Germany, you are eligible to vote in the Kommunalwahl only if you

• are at least 16 years old on Election Day
• are not disqualified from voting
• have had your (primary) residence in the municipality or district’s electoral area for three months prior to the election, or otherwise habitually reside there, and do not have a residence outside the electoral area.

In addition to having the substantive right to vote, participation in the Kommunalwahl requires either registration on the municipal or county voter roll or a special voter registration card.

If you have your (primary) residence in the electoral district, you will be automatically entered into the voter registry there provided you meet the other requirements. A secondary residence in the electoral district is not sufficient for entry into the voter registry.

If you have not been automatically entered into the voter registry due to the lack of a registered (primary) residence, you may submit an application for inclusion in the voter registry up to the 20th day before the election.

From the 20th to the 16th day before the election, you may view the voter registry during regular business hours. During this time, you may be added to the voter registry upon request if you meet the requirements.
