Register in the electoral roll for the Kommunalwahl

Description

Description

If you are a citizen of the European Union in Germany, you are only entitled to vote in Kommunalwahl if you

  • are at least 16 years old on election day
  • are not excluded from the right to vote
  • have had your (main) residence in the electoral area of the municipality or district for three months prior to the election or otherwise usually reside there and have no residence outside the electoral area.

In addition to the substantive right to vote, participation in the Kommunalwahl requires registration in the electoral roll of the municipality or district or a polling card.

If you have your (main) place of residence in the electoral area, you will be entered in the electoral roll there ex officio if you meet the other requirements. A secondary residence in the electoral area is not sufficient for entry in the voters' register.

If you have not been entered ex officio due to a lack of a registered (main) residence, you can submit an application for inclusion in the voters' register up to the 20th day before the election.

From the 20th to the 16th day before the election, you can inspect the electoral roll during general opening hours. During this period, you can apply to be entered on the electoral roll if you meet the requirements.
