If you wish to transport animals, you must obtain a license as a transport operator from the relevant veterinary office before beginning operations.

There are two types of licenses:

• A license for transports lasting up to 8 hours (Type 1) and
• a license for transports lasting more than 8 hours (long-distance transport: Type 2).

To obtain a Type 1 license, you must meet certain requirements regarding your location/headquarters, qualified personnel, and compliance with animal welfare laws.

To obtain a Type 2 license, you must meet several additional requirements. Detailed information can be found in the “Requirements” section.

A transport includes the entire transport process from the point of origin to the destination, including unloading, housing, and loading at intermediate stops.

If there are any changes to the information or documents you submitted to your veterinary office as part of the authorization process, you must notify your veterinary office no later than 15 business days after the change.

If you are a farmer, you do not need a permit to transport your own animals in your own vehicles over a distance of less than 50 km from your farm.
