Heimaufsicht in accordance with the Lower Saxony Supportive Housing Act (NuWG)

By moving into a retirement and nursing home, future residents place themselves under the protection of the Nursing Home Act, the primary purpose of which is to protect their dignity as well as their interests and needs from impairment.

The Lower Saxony Supportive Housing Act (NuWG) primarily applies to

  • Full inpatient facilities such as retirement and nursing homes and short-term care facilities,
  • Day care facilities,
  • Outpatient assisted living communities for adults in which they receive paid outpatient care or support services from service providers on the basis of a contractual obligation associated with the tenancy and
  • Forms of assisted living in which living space is provided to persons of legal age and in which they make use of services from service providers on the basis of a contractual obligation linked to the tenancy that go beyond general support services such as emergency call services, information and advice services or the provision of domestic care, nursing or care services.

The Heimaufsicht is responsible for implementing the law.
