When nature awakens, it’s time to wake the sea god Poseidon from his long winter slumber, too!

The traditional torchlight swim at Salzgittersee, organized by the Sepia diving club of TG Jugenddorf and Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH, will take place on Easter Sunday.

At dusk, brave torch-bearing swimmers set out in long processions through Reppner Bay into Salzgittersee to lure the grumpy sea god back out. After a long and deep winter slumber, this will be no easy task, according to the BSF. But if they succeed, the joy will surely be great, for the traditional fireworks display is already waiting to light up the sky and kick off the lake season in style.

Planned Schedule

The opening ceremony will take place around 6:00 p.m. As darkness falls, the divers will enter the waters of Reppner Bay. If they succeed in awakening Poseidon, this will be celebrated with a colorful fireworks display around 9:00 p.m. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
