The lecture series “Castles – Palaces – Manor Houses: Where the Nobility Resided in Salzgitter” is entering its final round!
This time, the focus is on palaces and manors from 1550 to 1920. During this period, the residences of the nobility and the palaces of the ruling princes differed significantly from one another in terms of function and form. Furthermore, in the 19th century, members of the bourgeoisie also began to construct more and more buildings resembling castles and palaces, even though they were not legally classified as such. With the fall of the monarchy in 1918, the history of castles and palaces in the Salzgitter region as seats of the nobility and centers of power in the legal sense finally came to an end.
The program includes the following presentations: Dr. Heiko Laß, “The Sovereign’s Palace and the Noble House”; Dr. Gudrun Pischke, “The Nobility and Noble Residences of the Early Modern Period in Salzgitter”; Dipl.-Ing. Elmar Arnhold, “Salder Castle in the Light of Architectural Research”; Friedrich von Wallmoden and Arne Homann, M.A., “The Alt Wallmoden Manor”; Dr. Alexander Dylong “Ringelheim: From Abbey to Monastery,” Arne Homann and Dr. Heiko Laß, “The Rediscovery of Castles in the 19th Century,” and Dipl.-Ing. Christoph Lücke: “New Castles in Salzgitter.”
The series is a collaboration between the City of Salzgitter, the Department of Culture, the City Museum at Salder Castle, and the Lower Saxony Regional Chapter of the German Castles Association. It is supported by the Friends of Salder Castle, the Friends of Lichtenberg Castle, and the Salzgitter Historical Society.
