Current situation on site
The cycle lane fords at the Berliner Straße/Neißestraße junction are not adapted to modern cycling requirements. The current routing forces cyclists and pedestrians into unnecessary encounters with oncoming cyclists and pedestrians, which can lead to accidents.
Since the introduction of electrically powered bicycles, the possible average speed of bicycles has also increased, which further exacerbates the current situation.
The Salzgitter City Council has therefore decided to change the route of the cycle path at this junction.
This is planned
The plan is to better separate the paths of bicycles and pedestrians and to make bicycle traffic more visible to motorists when crossing the road.
At the same time, new traffic lights for cyclists will also create significantly more clarity for motorists, so that all road users will be able to cross the junction more easily once the measure has been implemented.
- The new cycle path fords are to be painted red in the area of the junction to make them easier to see.
- For left-turning cycle traffic, indirect left-turn guidance is chosen in the intersection area. Cyclists first cross the road coming from the right and then position themselves on the marked area so that they cross the road from which they want to turn left with the crossing traffic flow.
