According to the Lord Mayor, the motto of the meeting, "Growing together", is based on openness, honesty, justice and trust. "Only if these values are practiced in the Metropolregion will our institution be successful," said Frank Klingebiel. The Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and Salzgitter regions, which are an important part of the Metropolregion, also want to grow together. With the Alliance for the Region and Bona SZ, the three cities are more closely connected. However, growing together could not be decreed, but would come about through cooperation and joint action.
This was also emphasized by the previous speaker, Stefan Schostok, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Metropolregion and Lord Mayor of Hanover. "We want to do more together," emphasized Schostok. The members of the Metropolregion see themselves as partners and are working hard to grow together. This is particularly important in times of demographic change and the influx of refugees. Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel also referred to this, thanking the people in the cities and municipalities for their voluntary commitment and at the same time calling for greater support from the federal and state governments.
Growing together is just as important in dealing with the refugee crisis as it is for the Metropolregion. The task of the Metropolregion is to make the cities and districts of the Metropolregion internationally visible. According to Stefan Schostok, the Metropolregion is one of the leading regions in Europe in the field of electromobility. This experience should be expanded and passed on.
Lower Saxony's Minister of Culture, Frauke Heiligenstadt, expressed the state government's expectation that the Metropolregion's international commitment would be strengthened. This was also supported by the Mayor of Braunschweig, Ulrich Markurth, who will take over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Metropolregion GmbH in October 2015. A panel discussion dealt with the goals that the Metropolregion wants to achieve in the field of healthcare.
Two specialist forums took place within the Metropolregion Assembly, dealing with the motives for founding metropolitan regions and electromobility. In the "Electrifying metropolitan regions" forum, it was made clear that the Metropolregion will continue to be committed to more electric vehicles and sustainable transport concepts even after the projects of the Electromobility Showcase come to an end. The Mayor of Osterode, Klaus Becker, invited participants to the next Metropolitan Assembly in Osterode on September 30, 2016.
