Unbureaucratic emergency aid

The state of Lower Saxony grants immediate financial aid to private households affected by flooding in an unbureaucratic manner.

The Lower Saxony state parliament has now approved the funds amounting to 50 million euros. They can now be paid out.

It is for damage caused by the flood events from Monday, July 24 to Friday, August 4 in Lower Saxony.

Private households in the following river catchment areas can apply for financial assistance:

- Aller with the tributary Oker and associated Oker tributaries in the
northern Harz foreland
- Leine with Innerste and associated tributaries in the western and
northern Harz foreland
- Eastern tributaries of the Weser between Hannoversch-Münden and
Rinteln

The emergency aid of up to 2,500 euros is granted to financially bridge acute emergency situations with regard to accommodation or the replacement of household goods.

Flood-related damage also includes damage caused by wild water run-off, flash floods, rising groundwater, overflowing rainwater and combined sewer systems and the consequences of landslides, provided they were directly caused by the flood. Direct damage caused by emergency services and emergency vehicles is also taken into account.

Damage that occurred in designated or provisionally secured flood areas due to a breach of flood protection regulations is not taken into account.
