Salzgitter

More service and comfort for passengers

Kraftverkehrsgesellschaft mbH Braunschweig (KVG) offers all advice and services relating to public transport in its new mobility center at Lebenstedt station.

During a transitional phase, the company will continue to offer its services at its previous location at Fischzug 1 in order to meet the expected high demand for advice on the launch of the Sozialticket for Salzgitter from January 1.

"The new mobility center offers more service and convenience for bus and train passengers," emphasizes Salzgitter's Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel. "An important step towards making local public transport more attractive. Both the citizens and guests of our city will benefit from this."

The city of Salzgitter owns the barrier-free mobility station and KVG will operate it. The construction time for the new service station was only around nine months (from April to December 2018).

The construction costs amounted to 970,000 euros. The construction project was funded by grants from the National Climate Initiative (funding body: Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety), represented by Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH from Berlin (project sponsor) with 350,000 euros.

In addition to the option of purchasing tickets, passengers now have access to weather-protected waiting and welcome zones, a public toilet facility and bicycle parking spaces.

The public toilet facility is a self-contained building with a total of 23 square meters, with one space each for men and women. There is also a barrier-free area with a hygiene lounger. It is also possible to change babies. Use of the toilet facility is free of charge.

The new building gives cyclists the opportunity to store their bikes safely near the station. On the one hand, the station offers approximately 55 square meters of weather-protected space for 32 bicycles in a closed enclosure. These spaces are available for hire. Payment (1 euro per day) is cashless. These spaces can only be booked online. Die Linke can be found at the bottom of this page. There are also 16 additional free bicycle parking spaces available under the self-supporting roof structure.

An interesting feature for owners of electric bikes: the locker cabinet with seven lockers located in front of the facility not only provides secure storage for luggage, the lockers can also be used as a charging station for the pedelec batteries.

The improvement of this area is not yet complete with the end of the first construction phase, as the Regionalverband Großraum Braunschweig has agreed to provide further financial support for the second construction phase planned for 2019, which includes the transition to the platform and the path lighting to City Lebenstedt.
