With a north-south extension of 2,120 meters and a total size of 75 hectares, the lake improves the quality of life, is right on the doorstep and offers a wide, colourful and varied range of activities from fishing, diving and sailing to regatta rowing in all Olympic boat classes.
Of course, you can also "just" swim in its waves and lie on the sandy beaches or jog along the lakeside paths. Salzgittersee is also well-known in Europe: The bathing water quality has been rated "Excellent" by the European Union (EU).
The Salzgittersee was opened for swimming and water sports back in May 1963. In the years following the start of construction in 1960, the project reached its final size of 75 hectares via intermediate stages in 1974.
