These buses are equipped with the latest diesel technology in accordance with the 6D emissions standard and make an important contribution to climate protection by reducing CO2 emissions.
The four 18 C Lion's City articulated buses have now been delivered and the official commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 together with Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel in the courtyard of the Salder Castle Museum in Salzgitter. Axel Gierga, Managing Director of KVG mbH Braunschweig, accepted the vehicles together with Mr. Klingebiel. Thomas Flentge from MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH symbolically handed over the keys.
Mayor Klingebiel was delighted with the new vehicles: "There is hardly any other means of transport in our city that is as environmentally friendly as ÖPNV. Thanks to low-emission, new mild-hybrid diesel buses and a stronger focus on electromobility in the future, we are working with KVG to lay the foundations for future-oriented urban transport and a climate-friendly home for our citizens."
KVG Managing Director Axel Gierga also emphasizes the company's focus on environmental and climate protection: "Our bus fleet has a number of system advantages that have a positive impact on the environmental balance. With our focus on modern drive technologies, we are making our contribution to achieving the 2030 climate targets in the transport sector."
The newly acquired articulated buses are part of the "EfficientHybrid" range.
The MAN "EfficientHybrid" has an intelligent energy management system. The main component is a robust and wear-free electric motor that serves as a generator. This generator immediately converts the energy recovered during the braking process into electrical energy. This electrical energy is stored and used both to supply the vehicle electrical system and while driving, so that the diesel engine has to generate less energy. A triple benefit for the environment, because in addition to fuel consumption, pollutant emissions and noise emissions are also reduced. The stop-start function allows passengers to experience the hybrid technology by automatically switching off the diesel engine at bus stops and red traffic lights. MAN city buses with "EfficientHybrid" are officially approved as hybrid buses.
Thanks to their particularly large passenger capacity, the 18-metre-long buses can also carry up to 140 passengers. There is a mechanical folding ramp at door two, and the step-free entrances are extremely low so that older people can also board the bus very easily. A friendly atmosphere in the passenger compartment ensures a pleasant journey. There is also enough space for baby carriages and wheelchairs. All buses are equipped with electric air conditioning and have an engine output of 243 KW / 320 HP.
The buses are primarily used for city transportation in Salzgitter.
