The volunteers also looked back on their activities this year and talked about their plans for 2026.
Thomas Löser has been working as Ortsheimatpfleger in Salzgitter-Bad since 1995 (until 2017 with Hans-Georg Knöß, then with Holger Rogge). As a contact person for questions about the history of Salzgitter-Bad, he regularly takes part in meetings organized by the town archive and works on current projects. Jan Erik Bohling, City Councillor for Culture, Economy and Digital Affairs, presented him with a gift and thanked him on behalf of the City Council and the administration for his 30 years of service. He also conveyed the greetings of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel.
"You preserve knowledge and pass it on in many ways," Jan Erik Bohling then thanked the numerous Ortsheimatpfleger in the Alte Feuerwache for their special commitment to the city. The volunteers are the "collective memory of the city", emphasized the city councillor. Knowledge about the 31 districts is an important basis for the people and for the development of the city, which is undergoing a process of economic change.
This makes the commitment of the Ortsheimatpfleger all the more important, for which Katrin Helm, Head of the City Archive, and Ann-Kathrin Möhle, responsible for the Ortsheimatpfleger in the City Archive, also expressed their thanks.
The participation of the Ortsheimatpfleger in the Braunschweigische Landschaft's traveling exhibition on the post-war period involved a lot of work: This included writing the exhibition texts and the corresponding illustrations.
In addition, an information board on the flax caves in Lobmachtersen was inaugurated. Lectures, tours and site visits also took place.
The city archive will take part in the nationwide Day of Archives on March 7, 2026. There will be an open day under the motto "Old home - new home": Citizens can get to know the city archive and find out about research opportunities. Ortsheimatpfleger will also be presented and there will be hands-on stations for the local photo collection.
