Salzgitter

Sundays open for business

The Lower Saxony Act on Shop Opening and Sales Hours (NLöffVZG) not only sets out the generally permitted sales hours but also, among other things, the exceptions to the Sunday regulations, the so-called "Sundays open for business".

The number of openings may be permitted in the entire city area of Salzgitter for a maximum of six Sundays per calendar year; the maximum number of openings in each local area may not exceed four Sundays. The term "local area" is subject to a narrower definition and is not necessarily to be equated with a district or locality of the city of Salzgitter.

Irrespective of this, if there is an outstanding occasion (e.g. a classic company anniversary), Sunday opening in a calendar year may be permitted for individual sales outlets upon application.

The Department of Public Safety and Trade carries out annual planning for the organization.

Applications for permission to open on Sundays must be submitted by 31.10. for the following year . The majority of the sales outlets in the area for which the opening is requested and an association representing them (e.g. advertising association) are eligible to apply.
