The goals of educational support in full-time foster care are not achieved overnight. When a foster child turns 18, this support may continue. This is intended to ensure that the progress made in the young adult’s development is not jeopardized. Young adults receive support as long as their personal development does not yet allow them to lead a self-determined, responsible, and independent life.

If support is continued, the existing services will remain in place.

An application for the continuation of support must be submitted before the child’s 18th birthday. It may be approved until the child reaches the age of 21. In exceptional cases, it may also be approved beyond that age.
