It is intended to pave the way for the transformation of the village district into an industrial area and help to relocate the residents (currently 464) who live close to the factory fences of the large corporations.
With the conversion of the Watenstedt district and its surroundings, unrestricted commercial and industrial use is planned. A high-quality industrial area is to be created by implementing an urban development project for Watenstedt.
At the same time, the project aims to find solutions to social problems and the socially acceptable resettlement of residents as well as the purchase of all land from private owners.
A 2011 report by the Lower Saxony Institute for Economic Development estimates that it will take up to 15 years to relocate the residents of Watenstedt and convert the district into an industrial area. According to initial estimates, around 19 million euros will be needed to purchase houses and land. The expansion of the infrastructure will cost between 18.5 and 41.8 million euros, depending on the development option.
