Children and young people with a disability cannot participate in society to the same extent as young people of the same age without a disability. Integration assistance (in accordance with Section 35a SGB VIII) is intended to compensate for these disadvantages and enable participation in social life.
Within integration assistance (in accordance with Section 35a SGB VIII), the child itself is entitled to benefits and not the legal guardian. The child receives integration assistance (in accordance with Section 35a SGB VIII) under the following conditions:
- the child's mental health deviates from the typical condition for their age
- with a high probability for longer than 6 months
- resulting impairment or impending impairment of participation in society
The deviation in mental health and its probable duration must be substantiated by a specialist opinion from a child and adolescent psychiatrist.
The impairment or imminent impairment of participation must be determined by the public youth welfare agency (the socio-educational specialists in the specialist service for children, youth and family of the city of Salzgitter) itself.
