With 75 percent funding from the state of Lower Saxony, the city is investing around 1.5 million euros in the modernization of the facility on both sides of Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. Instead of the previous parking lanes, nine bus stops will be created, which will also be adapted for the disabled.
During a construction site visit, city councillor Michael Tacke and the head of the civil engineering and traffic department, Torsten Fleige-Lütgering, attested to the exemplary behavior of road users. So far, there has been no significant disruption to private traffic. KVG passengers have also adapted quickly to the situation.
The stationary traffic lights have been taken out of operation and replaced by mobile systems which also control pedestrian traffic and are interlinked. The crosswalk in the Fischzug extension was closed; the crossings of Willy-Brandt-Straße and Konrad-Adenauer-Straße at the intersections are free.
The expansion of the southern carriageway with ancillary facilities and the central reservation with junctions to the station and the P + R square began on June 23. Traffic is currently routed on the north side. At the same time, work is being carried out on the footpath to the station as well as alterations to the station forecourt and the P+R square.
This will be followed in September by the expansion of the northern carriageway and ancillary facilities with the Albert-Schweitzer-Straße and Berliner Straße junctions (traffic routing on the south side). Work on the new ZOB is due to be completed by the end of November.
Technical data: Around 3300 square meters of concrete block paving with guiding strips for the visually impaired will be laid. Four new waiting shelters and a passenger information system will offer more service in future. Two-metre-wide cycle paths and footpaths will also be created, as well as a barrier-free ramp to the platform with intermediate platforms and railings.
