The most important task: to inform citizens about the opportunities offered by the Socially Integrative City urban development program.
"Many citizens told us about their fears and anger," says Maxie Simgen about the early days. There were many rumors circulating about the amount of compensation for the increase in land value of the properties that the owners would have to pay after the end of the urban development measure. But this negative attitude changed for many. "We did a lot of educational work, informed the citizens and thus took away the uncertainty of many people," explains Dr. Holger Pump-Uhlmann, who was able to make it clear in discussions that these contributions will mostly be moderate. Many citizens were convinced of the benefits of the Socially Integrative City urban development program.
This was also emphasized by Michael Tacke, City Councillor for Building, Urban Planning, Urban Development and the Environment. "It is an opportunity for Steterburg and not a burden," he said. The administration has a social responsibility for the development of the city of Salzgitter and its citizens. The 15-year urban development funding program is the only way to carry out an urban development upgrade. He hoped that the administration, together with the neighborhood management, would be able to get many citizens on board. He assumed that it would take many years of persuasion. The many years of stagnation had caused resentment among the people, who could now be taken along on the path of positive change and get involved.
