Partial inauguration on July 5
The decision for the new name was preceded by a competition: the girls and boys from the Stiftsmäuse daycare center, the St. Bernward family center and the Steterburg elementary school were invited to find a name for "their" new playground over the past few weeks. 160 name suggestions were received, 14 of which were then put to the vote.
The 20 or so "little" jury members from the daycare center, family center and elementary school then had the difficult task of deciding on a name from these 14 great suggestions. Each child was able to stick three red dots on the name tags. The "big" jury members Sylvia Fiedler, the children and family representative of the city of Salzgitter, and local mayor Christian Striese, as well as the accompanying persons from the family centers and the Steterburg elementary school were also allowed to vote with the red dots, but the children's votes were in the majority and thus decided:
The most red dots (24) went to the name "Landlubber Playground", closely followed by "Sailor Playground" and "Adventure Land".
The girls and boys were happy with their choice and were also delighted with the "Salzgitter Memory", which Sylvia Fiedler presented to the three facilities and which can be used to discover Salzgitter in a variety of playful ways.
Neighborhood managers Diana Graf and Sabine Naats thanked all the children who participated so enthusiastically in the name search and on the jury. Finding a name is part of the playground participation campaign, which began in 2018 with the children's wishes for what should be on the new playground.
The children's greatest wish, to be able to play on the playground soon, will be fulfilled from July 5, from 11 am. By then, most of the construction fences will have been dismantled and the girls and boys will be able to board the large play ship. Only the grass still needs to grow more so that they can romp around on it.
